Description / Bushcraft Survival Firesteel - With Compass

These firesteels are great quality, the material isn't too hard or soft ensuring they last a long time while providing a great spark. We've sold them here for around 10 years and have plenty of good feedback from bushcrafters, scouts and schools.

Firesteel Tips

Select the Right Tinder: Prior to striking your firesteel, prepare your tinder. Dry, fibrous materials like cotton balls, dry grass, or birch bark are ideal choices. Ensure your tinder is finely shredded or fluffed to catch sparks easily.

Secure a Stable Surface: Position your firesteel on a stable surface, such as a rock or the ground. This ensures you have a solid base for striking and reduces the risk of mishaps.

Hold the Firesteel Correctly: Grasp the firesteel firmly between your thumb and forefinger, with the striking edge facing downwards. Keep your other hand ready to hold the tinder bundle.

Angle and Pressure: Hold the firesteel at approximately a 45-degree angle to your tinder bundle. Apply firm pressure and draw the striker (usually a metal rod or scraper) down the length of the firesteel's edge in a swift motion. The objective is to produce a shower of sparks directed onto the tinder.

Practice Makes Perfect: Experiment with different angles and pressures to discover what works best for you. Practice in various weather conditions to refine your skills. Remember, mastery comes with repetition and experience.

Positioning the Tinder Bundle: Once sparks ignite your tinder, carefully transfer it to your fire lay (arrangement of larger fuel wood) to construct your fire. Shield the delicate flame from wind or moisture as you nurture it into a sustainable fire.
