Description / Mora 840 Companion Carbon Steel Bushcraft Knife

About The Mora 840

The Mora Companion Clipper Carbon 840 Steel Knife is perfect for bushcrafting, camping, scouts, outdoors centres. It is one of the most popular knives on Springfields.co.uk

  • This fixed blade knife has a three quarters (rat tail) tang - meaning the blade goes almost all of the way though the handle, making it perfect for bushcraft and heavier duty work than other similar priced knives while making it very affordable.
  • This knife has a Scandi grind - Making it easier to sharpen. (Check FAQ's below)
  • Patterned, high-friction grip makes the knife comfortable to hold and easy to handle
  • Blade length: 4.1 inches (104 mm) - Blade thickness: 0.08 inch (2.0 mm); Overall length: 8.6 inch (218 mm); Weight w/ sheath: 3.9 oz. (110 g)
  • Carbon steel - It really is razor sharp! The carbon steel may develop a patina over time, turning grey, this doesn't compromise the blade's edge in anyway and protects it from corrosion. When the carbon blade is brand new and shiny it's really important to keep it well oiled and dry to prevent rust.

Mora 840 Specification

Mora 840 FAQs

Is the knife easy to sharpen? - Yes, The Scandi grind makes the angle of the blade easier to sharpen, it's also made from Carbon steel which is quite a soft metal, although it may need sharpening more often, it will be sharper than a stainless steel blade. We recommend using a leather strop to sharpen the blade every 50 cuts or so.

Should I buy the 860 Stainless Companion Instead? - If you want a blade to use and put back in the drawer or toolbox without worrying about then yes, if you're looking for a bushcraft knife to use, keep razor sharp and look after then stick with the 840 Companion.

What is a Scandinavian grind? - A Scandi grind is a type of knife edge that has a single, wide bevel that extends from the spine to the edge with no secondary bevels. It is well-known for its simplicity, making it simple to sharpen with consistent angles with just a whetstone or sharpening stone. It is probably the most widely used grind in bushcraft knives.

I have several "custom made" bush craft knives, But the Mora companion must rate as one of the very best every day knives on the market.

Like a razor straight out of the packing, you really can't ask for more, highly recommend this knife to any serous bushcrafter.

Excellent Tool
Review by
I still cannot understand how Mora knives can be sold so cheaply! They are truly fantastic tools. They're sharp enough to shave with right out of the box, they hold their edge well and best of all, they actually take an edge easily when they do need re sharpened. The clipper makes a great hunting/work knife, and I'll never buy an expensive knife again. The Mora filleting knife is also a brilliant piece of kit. 5*

Simply outstanding
Review by
I bought this knife after reading several reviews on line about how good it was. I was a little sceptical about how good the reviews were saying this knife is,but they are spot on. I've had knives for the best part of 50 years, and some of them very expensive, but this knife takes a far sharper edge than any of them. Plus,it is very easy too regain that amazingly sharp edge.
One tip I will add is too buy a Latana smart sharp knife sharpener for about £13 and run your new Mora clipper carbon 840 through the ceramic rods as soon as you get it,and you'll probably have the sharpest knife you've ever owned!
I will never buy another expensive knife as this Mora companion clipper carbon 840 at £9.50 is truly an amazing bargain.
In summary,a tough, comfortable, practical and amazingly sharp knife.
