Mora 120 Carving Knife - Carbon
The Mora 120 - 60mm whittling knife is great for detailed carving work.
The Mora 120 is a compact carving knife with a long narrow blade that is well suited to precise detail work and general wood shaping. Its carbon steel construction offers excellent edge retention and is easy to sharpen. The Scandi grind allows controlled slicing and shaping, making it suitable for both softwoods and hardwoods.
The knife arrives extremely sharp and is ready to use straight from the box. Many users find that regular stropping is enough to keep the edge in top condition. When sharpening is needed the zero ground bevel can be maintained easily with a flat stone or abrasive paper on a hard backing. Honing directly on the bevel without introducing a secondary edge helps preserve the knife's cutting performance over time.
The oiled birch handle is sized for a full grip and offers a secure comfortable hold during longer carving sessions. It supports good control for both rough shaping and fine detail. The plastic sheath provides basic protection for storage and transport but may not offer a secure fit. Some users choose to replace it with a custom or leather option.
Made from German C100S carbon steel (SGM®C-DDE101) that is fully hardened and annealed for excellent edge retention and toughness. This steel takes a very fine edge and is ideal for repeated stropping and sharpening.

Mora 120 FAQs
Is the Mora 120 a good beginners knife?
Yes, the 120 is an excellent knife to start with, mainly for one reason - sharpness. Quite often, people associate sharpness with getting cut or a knife being more dangerous, when it comes to carving the sharpener the better, with a blunt knife you have to apply more pressure to cut or shave the wood. If too much pressure it applied, when the wood finally gives in and cuts your hand tends to fly off.
How do I look after my Mora 120?
It's likely to get covered in sap, water and wood shavings, the best way to look after your knife is to clean the blade with any oil and an old cloth.
